New River Outfitters is located in the historic New River General Store on the banks of the South Fork where US 221 crosses the river north of Jefferson, NC. We are the only outfitter actually located within the Scenic River area. Several trips of various lengths are available either upstream or downstream from our location, all within the Scenic River section of the South Fork . We are the best equipped and in the best location to insure that you enjoy your trip on the New. The New River General Store, our base for canoeing the New, is the oldest continuously operating store in the area. Visiting it is like stepping into the past and experiencing the mountains as they once were. Most food, supplies, and fishing and camping accessories you will need for your canoe trip are available in the store, as are old fashioned candies, hoop cheese, local crafts, nostalgic gifts, and other mementos of your visit to New River Country.
